Mum's Hand-Sewn Nike Logo: Once Shame, Now Son's Treasure

A heartwarming story of a son from Shaanxi, China, reflecting on his mother’s selfless love, has taken social media by storm, with his video touching millions and even catching the attention of Nike itself.

In a viral Douyin post, user @黑大帅哥 recalled his high school days, when he longed for a branded backpack like his classmates.

“When I was in school, my classmates all carried Nike and other brand-name backpacks, so I went home and begged my mother to buy me one,” he said.

However, at the time, he said his family’s business was struggling, so his mother told him they couldn’t afford one. Instead, during the school holidays, she carefully hand-stitched a Nike Swoosh onto his plain red backpack.

At first, young Liu was thrilled and excited to bring it to school. But the next day, his excitement turned into embarrassment when classmates mocked the “fake” Nike bag as a knock-off. Ashamed, he deliberately wore it out after a week and hid it away in a closet, never to use it again until now.

Liu, who’s now 22 years old, expressed regret over his childish reaction towards his mother’s act of love. “At the time, I thought it was embarrassing. Now, I realise it was the most priceless gift in the world.”

Nike Responds With A Special Gift

As the video’s likes soared past 8 million, Nike China’s official account commented:

“The stitching is amazing. A mother’s love gives us the courage to do anything. We’ve prepared a gift for your mom—please DM us. Just Do It!”

True to their word, Nike later confirmed they are preparing a special gift set for Liu’s mother.

Liu shared screenshots of his chat with Nike’s customer service, expressing gratitude as netizens flooded the comments with support, calling the story a reminder of the quiet sacrifices mothers make.
